"A furious mother has claimed her baby was bitten by BED BUGS at a Pontins resort.
Many expressed their horror earlier this month at the conditions of Pontins holiday parks after one family shared their 'horrendous' experience.
Iain Bate, 34, his fiancee Zoe Griffin, 31, and their three-year old toddler, Evan, were due to spend a long weekend down at the Brean Sands resort near Weston-super-Mare.
Now, Emma Bate says her daughter Gracie-Mai was bitten during a five-day stay in Southport.
Emma, her mum Carol and little Gracie-Mai, who is just 16 months old, were on the trip.
They stayed at the resort from October 8 for Emma's 30th birthday, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Unfortunately, the trip was ruined after Gracie-Mai suffered multiple bites to her face and body.
Emma, from Dudley, West Mids, said they paid £20 to hire a cot and bed linen - but claimed that even before the holiday started they had to ask for their chalet to be cleaned and found used linen still on the beds.
The next day, when the family woke up, Emma said she noticed her daughter had red bite marks on her legs and bottom.
She said: “She was covered in bites and had hardly slept through the night.
“We thought it might be a nappy rash and she hadn’t slept because of her teeth - she seemed fine that day.”
But the following morning, after yet another sleepless night with her daughter, the mum found more bites on her daughter’s body.
Nursery worker Emma added: “She had about 20 on her bum and her legs, five around her mouth and on her hands and then some on her arms.
“We didn’t think it was bed bugs because we weren’t waking up with them and had got the same linen.
“She is usually such a happy little girl but she was so miserable, when we were out she seemed fine but the minute we were back in the apartment and she would be in her cot she would cry.
“She would happily fall asleep on our beds but didn’t want to be anywhere near her cot.
“But we put it down to her being in a different place.”
After the holiday and worried about her daughter, who also had a temperature, Emma took her to her local GP in Dudley, who she claims confirmed the red bites had been caused by bed bugs.
She said: “I felt disgusting and appalled.
“My mum felt guilty because she had booked the trip for my birthday, but it isn’t her fault.
“The doctor said the bed bugs would have been in the mattress.”
Emma said she had to keep her daughter off nursery and wash all the family's clothes to make sure the bugs hadn’t travelled.
Following the trip the family made a complaint to Southport Pontins but said they got no response. The mum-of-one added: “It is absolutely appalling. “This is a 16-month-old baby and they haven’t even acknowledged our complaint. “There could have been a young baby in those cots and something a lot worse could have happened.
“Luckily Gracie has a good immune system but we have had to treat her with cream and give her ibuprofen to bring down her temperature as her body was fighting the infection.”
She added: “We went to have a nice time and my mum spent nearly £300 on the trip but it was ruined for Gracie and us.
“And then to not have even had an apology or any sort of acknowledgment it really is disgusting.”
The holiday complex has been the subject of several complaints recently including Becky Holmes who said her family holiday in September was marred by rude staff, dirty rooms, stained matresses and fighting among adults.
Christie Bunney and her family also complained about conditions during their stay in August, including adults fighting in a children's play area.
Southport Pontins has been contacted for comment."
